Icon Snowskates is proud to present our newest innovation, TrueConcave©.  Unlike previous attempts at concave, this technology is made of a highly lightweight, flexible, and durable type of plastic.  The inserts are attached directly to the deck itself on which our durable EVA foam grip and finally Xtremegrip™ are placed.  After countless hours of testing, our team has concluded that TrueConcave© enhances board feel and control and increases flip trick consistency.  While TrueConcave© is a groundbreaking feature of this season's line, we are happy to announce that it is not only backwards compatible on previous Icon Snowskates, but any wood snowskate can be modified with our TrueConcave© kit.

Research

Quite a bit of research and development went into TrueConcave©.  Originally the idea was to build a board with concave using strictly 100% North American maple plies.  Essentially the rest of the deck remained the same yet more plies were adhered along the edge of the board to create a concave top.  Weight became an issue so we tested a new idea on the Aspen trip. For this prototype, we cut down a ply on the rest of the core to reduce weight, leaving us yet again unsatisfied.

We then came up with an idea to create a product that could modify any snowskate (click here for more info). This would allow us to keep Icon's extremely durable wood core and add the concave to the top of it.  Our interests shifted to plastics which could be fabricated exactly to our specifications.  The team then tested several prototypes with various degrees of concave to determine whether or not it was beneficial to snowskating and to find the proper size of concave.  The results were unanimous and at around the time of the Icon Classic, we had settled on a design that was suitable for production.  Several months later we are left with a product that will change snowskating forever.
